Tamalaki

Tamalaki {Phyllanthus fraternus or niruri}

 

Tamalaki also know as Bhumyamalaki or niruri or jamgli

 

Ayurveda Characteristic and Uses

  1. Effect on doshas – Balances Pitta and also good for Kapha
  2. Taste – Bitter, sweet, astringent
  3. Energetics – Cooling
  4. Main Traditional Action: Detox and support liver and gall bladder, respiratory diseases  
  5. Other Traditional Uses: Helps soothe digestive tract, promotes healthy skin diuretic, antiseptic, antipyretic, and antidiabetic.

 

Modern Research

Tamalaki and its components have been shown to have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antiviral, antiplasmodial, antitumor, chemoprotective, immunomodulatory, antihyperuricemic, and hepatoprotective effects. It has also been shown to have vasodilatory effects as well, macrophage activation, lipid lowering activity, and diuretic, hypotensive and hypogylcaemic effects.
