Hyssop

Hyssop {Hyssopus officinalis}

Hyssop which is also know as zupha

Ayurveda Characteristic and Uses

  1. Effect on doshas – Balances Vata and Kapha, increases Pitta
  2. Taste – Bitter, pungent
  3. Energetics – Heating
  4. Main Traditional Action: Expectorant, carminative, spasmolytic
  5. Other Traditional Uses: Coughs, colds, bronchitis, asthma, muscular rheumatism, and also for bruising, digestive tonic and helps cure as disparate disorders as weak digestions and anxiety and depression.

 

Modern Research

Hyssop and its components have been shown to have antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, anti-proliferative, antiviral, cardiovascular, diabetes mellitus type 1, expectorant, and gall bladder effects. It has also been shown to have inhibitory effects on intestinal alpha-glucosidase activity and postprandial hyperglycemia.
