Ayurveda Characteristic and Uses

  4. Main Action: Rejuvenative, nervine, and aphrodisiac

Other Uses: Used topically in Vata-pacifying massage oils,  in Vata-pacifying nasya oils, in basti,  as general tonic in general debility and undernourishment and strengthens all of the Dhatus, mainly Mamsa and Shukra (Bala means “strength”), and in Vata disorders, including sciatica and neuralgias.

Modern Research

It has been investigated as an anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti-pyretic, anti ulcerogenic, for preventing cell proliferation, and for encouraging liver re-growth.Due to its ephedrine content, it possesses properties, affecting the central nervous system and heart.
